The 2024 Hunger Challenge is set to kick off on April 1st, marking the beginning of a month-long initiative aimed at rallying support from the communities of Kent and Ravenna to donate food and monetary contributions to Kent Social Services and the Center of Hope.
This annual challenge aims to surpass last year’s achievements by encouraging increased participation from residents of Kent and Ravenna to beat their totals last year. Last year the Center of Hope raised $25,141 and collected 12,894 food items, and Kent Social Services raised $33,937 and collected 7,695 food items. This year, communities are challenged to beat their totals from 2023.
These donations are invaluable and enable the Center of Hope and Kent Social Services to continue their crucial mission of assisting food-insecure families in Portage County.
How You Can Help:
Residents are urged to donate monetarily or with non-perishable food items such as canned goods, boxed meals, cereals, rice, peanut butter, and other food staples. Every contribution, no matter how big or small, makes a meaningful impact in supporting individuals and families facing food insecurity.
Ways to Donate:
Physical donations can be made directly to Kent Social Services and The Center of Hope at their respective locations on Monday through Friday from 9am-3pm throughout the month of April. Check donations can be mailed to 705 Oakwood Street, Ravenna, OH 44266 with “Hunger Challenge” in the memo line. For those who prefer to contribute online, monetary donations can also be made securely at fcsserves.org/hungerchallenge.
On Saturday, April 20th, both organizations will be holding a collection date. Those wishing to support the Center of Hope can drop off donations at the Ravenna Aldi from 10am-2pm. Those wishing to support Kent Social Services can drop off donations at Kent Social Services from 10am-1pm.
Donation boxes will also be conveniently located at the Ravenna Police Department, Kent Police Department, and the Sheriff’s Department throughout April.
