By now you may have heard that this year’s Hope in a Handbag, Safer Futures’ annual fundraiser, is mixing things up with a new bidding format.
Previously, the fundraiser was a silent auction, but this year it will be switching to a purse bingo format. So what does that mean for the long-term attendees and newcomers alike to Hope in a Handbag?
Purse bingo will consist of 10 rounds of bingo where the winner of each round will receive that round’s purse. Attendees will receive one sheet with three bingo cards for each of the ten rounds, meaning they have three chances to win that round’s purse. If it’s a purse that you really love, additional packets of bingo cards will be available for purchase in order for you to increase your odds of winning.
In the event that multiple bingos occur, a deck of cards will be used and the highest draw will win. Alternate secondary prizes will be awarded to each other bingo winner.
Although there are changes to how you take home a purse, most of the event itself will stay the same. Hope in a Handbag will still have its traditional 50/50 and basket raffles throughout the night. There will still be good food and great company. And the proceeds for the event will still go to support critical victim services here in Portage County, helping the shelter to provide over 2,200 shelter nights and assist over 1,300 survivors through its crisis line and resource referrals each year.
We can’t wait to see you there!
