Mobile Meals

Our mission is to provide healthy meals and nutrition services to enrich lives and foster independence.

Founded in 1971 by the Summit County Medical Alliance and acquired by FCS in 2016, Mobile Meals works to provide regular nutritional meals to low-income, elderly, and disabled individuals in Summit, Cuyahoga, and Portage County. Mobile Meals offers home-delivered meals that are either hot or frozen, depending on the individuals’ needs. The meals come from dietician-created monthly menus that meet daily nutrition requirements. For those with specific dietary requirements, kosher, gluten-free, and diabetic-friendly meal options are available, as well as supplements.

Although meals and supplements are the core of the Mobile Meals mission and program, clients receive additional benefits that contribute to their overall health and welfare. When meals are delivered, recipients also receive a daily safety and security check, which helps them stay independent in their homes and out of around-the-clock care, and is also helpful to family members and caregivers. This security check also provides clients with some social interaction, helping to reduce feelings of isolation and loneliness that are so common for home-bound individuals.

CURRENT NEEDS

Many of those served by Mobile Meals  have limited incomes and often have to choose between paying for things like food, utilities, and medical expenses. As a result, many struggle with food insecurity and regularly accessing nutritional food. With those over 65 being the fastest-growing demographic, this is a problem that will only become more prevalent over time. Donations made to Mobile Meals help offset the cost of providing meals to low-income individuals, reducing financial strains and increasing access to healthy food.

Making An Impact

Last month, a Mobile Meals driver arrived at a client’s home to deliver a meal. When greeted at the door by the client, the driver immediately noticed that she looked disheveled. When the client invited her in, which was uncommon from her, the driver began to ask questions. The client was unable to give coherent and intelligible answers, and the driver knew immediately that she needed to call 911. She also called the client’s emergency contact and stayed with her until EMS arrived. Thanks to our driver’s swift action and alertness, our client’s life was saved.
