Family & Community Services, Inc.

At 94 years old, Clyde ‘Grannie’ Adams spends every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday volunteering her time with students at Willyard Elementary. Clyde is a volunteer through the F&CS Foster Grandparent Program, which recruits individuals 55+ to volunteer as tutors and role models to young people with exceptional needs. Since she started, Clyde has mentored over 320 children and has over 150 hours of volunteer time at the school.

For all of Clyde’s hard work and dedication to her students, she received the Friends of Education Award for 2023. This award is given annually to individuals or businesses in the community who have contributed their time or donated to the school.

The Willyard School staff stated that when Clyde showed up to the school, the students were so excited they “instantly became her security detail and made sure she made it safely into the building.” They are very thankful to have Clyde at their school and can’t wait to see her next school year.

An F&CS employee states, “Clyde is truly amazing. She is an FCS treasure.” This award is well deserved. Thank you for all you do, Clyde!
